All change

Things have been really hectic for the last month so no posts. Moved house successfully but sadly our broadband order was messed up by our new providers and we’ve got to wait a month – A MONTH!! – for it to get sorted. So I’ve had limited web access on top of all the other hassles of moving into a new home. I’ve also got an essay due in a weeks time and have so much to do on it. But given that this blog has always served as a wonderful form of procrasination, here are a few brief highlights from the last few weeks.

  • Bub is crawling. He was a slow starter but once he got it he was away. He started crawling just before his 9 month birthday and within a few weeks was also pulling himself up to standing and cruising round the furniture. He can now walk quite confidently with a toddle truck or holding your hand. It’s been a really fast pace of development and has kept us on our toes. Everything is now baby proofed as best we can and you can’t turn your back for a minute.
  • He’s got his first tooth. Came through last week and was a pretty torturous affair for all concerned. It coincided with him getting a tummy bug and a cold so this made it all worse. We had about four nights in whch he woke up almost every hour which was challenging to say the least. But it’s through now and he’s back to his usual self.
  • Bub has said his first word, which is inevitably ‘dada’. He has said these syllables for a while but now definitely uses it to talk about his daddy. He’s never said the syllables for ‘mama’ ever (boo!) He also says ‘Ed!’ very demandingly when he sees some food he wants or wants some more dinner. I’ve no idea what he’s trying to say but he always says it in this context so it’s definitely a food related word. Don’t think he’s expressing a view on the new Labour leader, though that may come with time!
  • He’s also learnt to wave. This is super cute and something he now does all the time, both as a greeting but mainly just to show he can. He’s fascinated by our cat and waves at her quite a bit. I think he’s getting pretty disappointed that she never does it back.

It’s been an amazing pace of change in the last few weeks. I feel like I have a whole new child. And he definitely doesn’t really feel like a baby any more.
